The National Testing Agency (NTA) was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the Government of India. The main aim of NTA is to conduct an efficient test to assess candidates for admission as well as oversee the smooth and fair conduction of said tests. Apart from that, the NTA is also responsible for initiating quality research on the educational, professional, and testing system of the candidate to identify gaps in the knowledge systems. For this purpose, it carries out training exercises, expert consultations, and advisories to various institutions across India, in collaboration with various international organizations. NMC/MCI Exam

National Medical Commission (NMC) is an Indian regulatory body of 33 members which regulates medical education and medical professionals. It replaced the Medical Council of India on 25 September 2020. The Commission grants recognition of medical qualifications, gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, and monitors medical practice and assesses the medical infrastructure in India. It was earlier established for 6 months by an ordinance in January 2019 and later became a permanent law passed by Parliament of India and later approved by President of India on 8 August 2019.

The Medical Council of India, the former medical regulating body in the country has faced serious corruption scandals. In addition to this, the MCI was also alleged of promoting Inspector Raj (the inspections carried out by the MCI to ensure the maintenance of required standards by medical colleges) and the malpractices linked with it. It is in this context that the NMC Act replaces scam-tainted MCI with the National Medical Commission.
